Goa is India's smallest state, but it is one of the most charming and captivating. It is best known for its beautiful beaches, magnificent churches and temples, and beach trance parties.  It is well-known among nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, hikers, and bird watchers in addition to tourists and newlyweds. 

Endowed with exceptional natural beauty Goa is known for its diverse flora and fauna. This "weekend birding tour" offers a well-planned visit to the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, Goa's largest wildlife preserve, and the Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary, the state's smallest wildlife sanctuary.

Itinerary

Arrive at Goa International Airport, you will be greet and transferred to the DoubleTree by Hilton Goa - Panaji, which is nestled between lush forest and the calming waters of the Mandovi River. It is only 10 minutes away from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Old Goa. Panaji, Goa's capital city, and Miramar Beach are both 15 minutes and 45 minutes from Goa International Airport, respectively. After lunch you can go for birding around the hotel or Birding at the Carambolim lake (7.5 km) or Relax at the hotel and get ready for a full day birding adventure in the heart of Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary, the next day.

Overnight stay at the Double Tree by Hilton Goa - Panaji.

We will drive to Bhagwan Mahavir wildlife sanctuary (1 hour 15 minutes) early in the morning for a day drip to explore Goa's semi-evergreen, evergreen, and moist deciduous forests.

The Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the foothills of the Western Ghats and covering an impressive 240 square kilometres, is Goa's largest wildlife preserve. This sanctuary is home to a wide range of plant, bird, and animal species. Hiking trails that traverse this vast tract of land are popular with nature lovers and hikers. The sanctuary is home to the famous Dudhsagar waterfall, the Devil's Canyon, the Tambdi Surla temple, the Tambdi falls, and a number of other historic and religious sites, in addition to a large amount of biodiversity.

The sanctuary's area is heavily forested, with pristine vegetation such as West Coast tropical evergreen forests, semi-evergreen forests, and moist deciduous forests. The evergreen forests are typically found at higher elevations, on the upper slopes of the Ghats and along the banks of the perennial rivers that run through the sanctuary.

The most frequent of the over 200 bird species recorded in this sanctuary is the Flame-throated Bulbul, the state bird of Goa. In addition, we will keep an eye out for the Golden Oriole, Emerald Dove, Indian Grey Hornbill, Paradise Flycatcher, Great Pied Hornbill, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Malabar Trogan, Crested Serpent Eagle, Crested Honey Buzzard, Ashy Wood Swallow, Asian Palm Swift, Olive-backed Pipit, Pompadour Pigeon, Jungle Owlet, White-bellied Woodpecker and many more.

In addition to birdwatching, a hot breakfast and lunch will be served at the Backwoods Camp, located in the heart of the sanctuary. Evening back to Panaji.

Overnight stay at the Double Tree by Hilton Goa - Panaji.

Early in the morning, we'll return to Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary for missing targets, and later that day, we'll go birding in Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary (the smallest of all the wildlife sanctuaries in Goa). Evening return to Panaji. If time allows, you can visit one of Goa's many beaches.

Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary is mostly covered in the moist deciduous forest with a few patches of evergreen vegetation. Terminalia Crenulata (Matti), the state tree of Goa, and Rosewood are two common trees found here.

This sanctuary is home to a variety of animals. The Gaur, Goa's state animal, is one of them, as well as Sambhar deer, Indian Leopard, Jungle cat, Toddy cat, Wild Boar, Crested Porcupine, Scaly Anteater or Pangolin, and Malabar Giant Squirrel among others.. There are watchtowers strategically placed to observe the animals in their natural habitats.

A variety of birds can also be found in the park. The most common of these are the state bird, the Flame-throated Bulbul, Indian Grey Hornbill and Lesser Goldenback. The park also attracts a number of endangered species. We will gladly assist you in locating the best vantage points for viewing and photographing the birds.

A picnic breakfast in the forest and lunch at Backwoods Camp will be served on time.

Overnight stay at the Double Tree by Hilton Goa - Panaji.

Morning boat ride on the Zuari River in search of White-bellied Sea Eagles and Six species of Kingfishers. Later after a delicious breakfast, check out of the Double Tree by Hilton and transfer to the airport to catch a flight back home. TOUR END
