Overview

Eastern Nepal is a poorly explored area and is one of the major attractions for adventurous tourists in Nepal. It holds an abundance of birds and mammal diversity. The maximum extent of the region lies within the Eastern Himalayan range; a secure home for globally threatened birds and wildlife. Some districts of eastern Nepal including Ilam, Taplejung, and Panchthar hold subtropical and lower temperate forests with maximum rainfall, which are a very important habitat for Himalayan Red Panda Airulus fulgens. Red Panda is one of the major attractions for tourists in eastern Nepal. This tour has been developed as one of the most exciting tours and would be very productive in many aspects. You will be taken to the dense subtropical and bamboo forest. Our highly experienced guide and trackers first track the panda and take you up there. Besides the Panda you will be able to collect a full bucket of colourful Himalayan Birds including the fascinating Satyr Tragopan Tragopan satyra, flock of skulking Brown Parrotbill Cholornis unicolor, beautiful Golden-breasted Fulvetta Lioparus chrysotis, noisy Great Barbet Psilopogon virens, very shy Rufous-breasted Bush-robin Tarsiger hyperythrus, highly gregarious Black-throated Thrush Turdus atrogularis, an endemic to central Himalayas Hoary-throated Barwing Sibia nipalensis. You will also find different species of Yuhinas and varieties of tits and warblers. Destinations: This trip will take you into the cloud forests and communities of the eastern Nepal hills. You will be exploring one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world. Our experienced guide, with the help of the local people, will have a chance to see Red Pandas in the wild and their natural environment. Though spotting a Red Panda is never guaranteed, sightings are certainly increasing as guides get better and better at knowing where and what to look for. Itinerary

Meals: Dinner only.

Arrive at Kathmandu airport; Wild India Journey representative will greet you and drive you to hotel.If time permits, you can go for a walk through the Thamel (the place; famous for its bustling narrow streets those are studded with craft shops). Overnight in Hotel Crowne Imperial or Similar. 

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

After breakfast drive back to Kathmandu airport to take flight to Bhadrapur. Arrive at Bhadrapur airport around lunch time. Meet your driver at the airport and transfer to Elam (03 hrs.) We will stop on the way for lunch and for birdwatching. Arrive at the Ilam in the afternoon; check in to the hotel and go out for birding around Ilam if time permits. Overnight at Summit hotel or Similar.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner

On this day, we leave after breakfasts towards our destination Dobate. We climb the hills as soon as we leave the town borders and ascend to an altitude of 2000m. After a two and half hours of driving through small villages and small forest patches and hill towns, we well reach the Singalila National Park, Dobato. Birding around Dobato in the afternoon. After Dinner; we will go out for a night jeep safari looking for nocturnal animals. Overnight in Dobato Homestay.

Using our homestay at Dobato as the base, we will spend these days exploring the surrounding forests with our trackers, on foot and by jeep for one more night safari, to look for the pandas in the day and other wildlife in the night.

Singalila Ridge features extensive broadleaf montane rainforest is ideal habitat for the the enigmatic Red Panda and of course excellent birding to be had in such pristine forest. This area is possibly the best place in the world to see Fire-tailed Myzornis, with some birders counting dozens of individuals in a single morning! We can expect to come across lovely Himalayan species such as Satyr Tragopan, Chestnut-crowned Laughingthrush, Scaly Laughingthrush, Black-faced Laughingthrush, Striated Laughingthrush, Streak-breasted Scimitar Babbler, Slender-billed Scimitar Babbler, Rufous Sibia, Rufous-vented Yuhina, Stripe-throated Yuhina, Blue-fronted Redstart, Red-tailed Minla, Bar-throated Minla, Golden-breasted Fulvetta, Rusty-flanked Treecreeper, Scaly-breasted Cupwing, White-collared Blackbird, Yellow-billed Blue Magpie, Darjeeling Woodpecker, White-tailed Nuthatch, Red-vented Tit, Grey Crested Tit, Rufous-gorgeted Flycatcher, Fire-tailed Sunbird, White-winged Grosbeak, Himalayan White-browed Rosefinch, Red-headed Bullfinch, and many many more. With some luck, we will come across some rarer birds known from the area such as Blood Pheasant, Fulvous Parrotbill, Rusty-fronted Barwing, or Rufous-throated Wren-Babbler. We can certainly expect to see about 200 species in our short time here!
