The Sariska Tiger Reserve, tucked away among the Aravali Hills, is renowned for housing and protecting tiger species. Sariska, the largest area of Rajasthan, features stunning topography and is covered with deciduous dry forests. The reserve has an area of 800 sq km in total, with roughly 500 sq km of that area being covered by the core zone. The geography of the environment, which is comparable to Ranthambore, supports scrub, thorny desert forests, boulders, and grasses.
Sariska was established in 1978 and awarded the status of a tiger reserve, becoming a component of India's Tiger Project programme. Even though Alwar is known as a dry deciduous region, the arrival of the monsoons changes the area's entire atmosphere in a way that draws tourists who appreciate the natural beauty. The forest is mostly a tropical, dry, deciduous, and tropical thorn forest, and it is said to be the only forest patch in the entire western Aravali Hills.
This sanctuary's landscape is made up of little hills and tiny valleys with bustling, dense plants growing in between the rocky terrains.
Apart from the tiger, which is the main predator in the Sariska Tiger Reserve, other animals found there include the leopard, hyena, caracal, jungle cat, ratel, nilgai, Sambar deer, spotted deer, langur, Rhesus macaque, four-horned antelope, wild pig, Indian civet, rufous tailed hare, common mongoose, etc.
Numerous carnivores, including the Tiger, Leopard, Wild Dog, Jungle Cat, Civet, and Hyena reside in the park. Species like Sambar, Chital, Nilgai, Chausingha, Wild Boar, and Langurs are some of their frequent prey. Rhesus monkeys, which have a high population and have been found in and near Talvriksh, are another famous animal from Sariska.
The Great Indian Horned Owl, Peafowl, Grey Partridge, Bush Quail, Sand Grouse, Tree Pie, Golden-backed Woodpecker, and Crested Serpent Eagle are just a few of the many birds that Sariska symbolises in the avian world.
With the remainder of the season being closed, October through June are the best months to visit Sariska Reserve. You can reach Sariska easily by road from Jaipur or Delhi.
